It’s one of the most ancient toys in the world. In fact, even ancient Greek and Roman children loved playing with spinning tops, but they sure weren’t able to build an automated one!
Today, students from Class 4B and Class 5C at the Istituto comprensivo di Viale dei Consoli will be accompanied by teacher Marinella Farini to the Rome Città Educativa Phyrtual Innovation Gym. They will face the challenge of building a spinning top with the WeDo Lego Kit at the Robotics Centre.
Building a spinning top requires various types of knowledge. The students have been studying the transmission of motion (increase and decrease in velocity on the same axis and on parallel axes); energy transfer; levers, cogs and pulleys; alternated movement with camshafts, endless spirals and friction.
Labs at the Rome Robotics Centre are available every day except for Wednesdays through June 10, 2014.
