Seventy-Year-Old Class

Twenty young men and women at the Liceo E. Vendramini in Pordenone have accepted the challenge of becoming tutors. They will teach new technology to over-65s, a category that now represents 25% of the population with a majority of women (ca. 60%). And 30% of them are older than eighty! It’s a fundamental challenge in a region that is second in Italy in terms of age, after Liguria.

Citizens aged 65 and over will report to school today at 2 pm at the Vendramini School, an eighty-year-old institute in downtown Pordenone. The class is composed by 12 women and 10 men. Average age is 70. The eldest are Nicola, 86, and Gina, 85, both of whom are retired schoolteachers

Classroom activities are coordinated by Prof. Luca Garbo, while Rosy E’Elia will welcome everyone on behalf of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
