TIM Enterprise at RomeCup 2026: digital skills, secure infrastructure and artificial intelligence for the common good

At RomeCup 2026, TIM Enterprise renews its commitment alongside the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to help train a new generation of talent capable of understanding, designing and managing emerging technologies. In a context where artificial intelligence, the cloud and data are redefining services, businesses and public administrations, the challenge lies not only in accessing digital tools, but in the ability to use them in an informed, secure and socially responsible manner. We discuss this with Simonetta Sada, Head of Service Concepts & Innovation at TIM Enterprise and Head of Olivetti Engineering & Operations, who outlines TIM Enterprise’s vision: anthropocentric innovation, founded on secure and sovereign digital infrastructures, responsible data management and solutions capable of improving the quality of life for people, communities and regions.

Participation in RomeCup is also part of the initiative launched with Roll Cloud. Working on the cloud, the Opening Future project promoted in partnership with Google Cloud and Intesa Sanpaolo, which involved over 2,200 students in activities focused on the cloud, artificial intelligence and social innovation. Through the Hack4SocialAI hackathons, young people worked on real-world challenges, ranging from educational poverty to health, from inclusion to sustainability, exploring how technological skills can be transformed into public value.

The interview explores the role of businesses in building a more informed digital culture: not merely as enablers of technological solutions, but as educational partners capable of guiding young people in understanding the mechanisms, limitations and ethical implications of artificial intelligence. A contribution that enriches the theme of RomeCup 2026, dedicated to dialogue between minds and talents, and confirms the importance of structured alliances between schools, businesses and institutions to steer innovation in the collective interest.

Why has TIM Enterprise decided to participate in RomeCup again this year, and what contribution will it make to the theme of nurturing young talent in the governance of new technologies?

TIM Enterprise’s participation in RomeCup reflects a clear vision: technological innovation must be governed according to anthropocentric principles and developed through structured collaboration between schools, businesses and institutions. As an enabler of the country’s digital infrastructure, TIM Enterprise operates on two levels: on the one hand, it builds strategic and sovereign networks and technological solutions; on the other, it contributes to the spread of an informed digital culture, an essential prerequisite for Italy’s sustainable development.

Within this framework, its commitment to young people focuses on developing skills related to digital sovereignty and the governance of emerging technologies. The aim is to foster a new generation of talent capable not only of using artificial intelligence, but of understanding its mechanisms, limitations and ethical implications. The Hack4SocialAI hackathons at RomeCup provide a practical setting in which participants can experience the value of AI when it is designed and used under human control, in a responsible and transparent manner.

What did the Roll Cloud experience mean for TIM Enterprise?

For TIM Enterprise, this was a significant initiative, capable of making complex technologies such as the cloud and artificial intelligence accessible to over 2,200 students. In collaboration with Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the Opening Future partners, we contributed to the development of a training programme focused on social impact, in which technology becomes a practical tool serving the common good.

The project also offered the opportunity to convey to young people the importance of secure and sovereign digital infrastructures, which are fundamental for data protection and the competitiveness of the national economy. In the Hack4SocialAI courses, students were involved in designing solutions aimed at real-world challenges, such as educational poverty, social inclusion and health. An experience that demonstrates how solid technological skills can translate into public value and responsible innovation.

This year’s central theme is artificial intelligence for collective well-being. What is your vision?

Artificial intelligence contributes to collective well-being only if it is designed and governed responsibly. The value of technology lies not in automation itself, but in its ability to generate concrete, sustainable and measurable benefits for citizens, businesses and public administrations.

TIM Enterprise puts this vision into practice through tangible actions. We invest in sustainable digital infrastructure, such as data centres powered exclusively by renewable energy and energy recovery projects that benefit local communities. We develop platforms for Smart Cities, such as TIM Urban Genius to protect communities from environmental risks, and solutions for monitoring critical infrastructure, with the aim of improving the efficiency of public services and people’s quality of life. At the heart of this remains responsibility in data management: data sovereignty and security are essential prerequisites for building trust and ensuring genuine collective progress.
