Team "Chimera" won the Weese Hackathon that was held last Wednesday at the Roman company, an Italian leader in the production of bio-climactic greenhouses and panoramic protections in glass. The nine competing teams worked on a concreate issue launched by Weese: allowing final consumers to preview the installed product in any imaginable environment [see news: Sales Experience].
Francesco Sapio, a researcher at Sapienza University of Rome and Team Leader of Chimera, together with Lauren Ferro from the Department of Computer Engineering and three young women studying at IIS Confalonieri-De Chirico in Rome (Alexandra Georgescu, Giulia Pellegrino and Sofia Melcarne) developed Project "WeeseApp".
It’s not just a simple application, but a “platform that is capable of designing and renovating various types of glass windows in augmented reality, and which helps clients to decide what they want. The app features a drag and drop service of glass window and doors, both for interiors and exteriors. It personalises the selection based on the environment, displays the estimated cost and contacts Weese for a price quotation."
In fact, WeeseApp, includes a number of modules (Basic Module, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality Examples, 360 Reconstruction, User Gallery, Mini Game, Wi-Fi Tracking) and the possibility of contacting the company directly to learn more about its values, as Francesco Sapio explains in an interview after the proclamation of the winning team.
The €2000 prize goes to the experts on Team Chimera, Francesco and Lauren, while the three young women on the "UX in Action" school-work programme will each receive a €100 Amazon voucher. Over the coming days, the winning team will decide how to develop the project, completion time and costs with Weese.
Second place went to two teams: HowHight and LSDP.
- Team HowHigh (Gioacchino Chirico, Matteo Foroni, Umberto Truscello, Francesco Scardigno, and school-work programme students Valeria Rossini and Lorenzo Bernassola) designed an augmented reality mobile application to measure the installation area, providing the user with a preview of the final result directly on a smartphone.
- Team LSDP (Mattia Domenico Petrangeli, Dario Vitiello, Matteo Rossi and school-work programme students Luca Gori and Sophia Iezzoni) designed an app integrated with various other technological applications (ARkit, Chabot, DBM, etc.) that allow users to drag the product directly onto the image final location.

What is a hackathon? How do teams tackle the challenge? How can individuals who have just met each other work together? What is the atmosphere like? These questions are answered by various of the protagonists of this experience. Their replies, which were informally recorded during the marathon, are all on the same playlist.
The hackathon for the creation of innovative tools to improve the sales experience was promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale as part of Project Immersive Weese, part of a global renewal process undertaken by Weese.
