The Computer Science Department at the University of Salerno is organising a series of initiatives to promote and encourage young women to study information technology.

“Technology is too important to be left only to men.” Fully embracing the declaration of Neelie Kroes, European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda, women professors at the Department of Computer Science are inviting  young high school women, teachers and parents interested in these issues to attend an event entitled “Opting for IT,” which will be held on February 26-28, 2018.

The programme includes a workshop to collect the experience of personalities from industry, research, education, politics and volunteering, who will explain how important it is to contribute to digital innovation for the future of our society, overcoming any gender prejudice.

Cecilia Stajano, School Innovation Coordinator for the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, will participate in today’s round table in the session dedicated to significant events. Moreover, Cecilia will present the FMD projects dedicated to female students (She Means Business, Pink Cloud, Women in Technology, etc.) and women (from coding to entrepreneurship) and the Coding Girls Association.

Over the course of the coming days, the young participants will learn about their potential for IT by participating in problem-solving and hands-on programming activities.
