AI, inclusion and personalised learning

The new training season for PariPasso with Rizzoli Education has begun. The first webinar took place yesterday

The collaboration with PariPasso kicked off yesterday for the new school year, as part of the Rizzoli Education project dedicated to educational inclusion and teaching innovation. The first webinar explored the topic of personalised learning through artificial intelligence, with a particular focus on pupils with special educational needs.

The session was led by Roberto Raspa, a lecturer and educational expert, who demonstrated how generative AI can be used in a targeted manner, within specific pedagogical constraints, to support educational work. “We are not talking about a general-purpose AI,” he explained, “but about an artificial intelligence that has been designed to do one specific thing and to do it in the best possible way.”

At the heart of the webinar AI, inclusion and personalised learning was also Pathway Companion, the platform developed under the coordination of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale with the support of Google.org and contributions from the Fondazione Don Carlo Gnocchi, Roma Tre University and IT Logics. The tool is designed to support teachers, educators and families in creating more accessible and personalised learning pathways.
The tool does not replace the role of the educator, but places teachers, educators and families at the centre: “The utmost care has been taken to develop an open and functional tool for teachers, parents and educators […] to support pupils in achieving more effective and highly personalised learning.”

The platform integrates three main areas of intervention: compensatory tools, content adaptation and intelligent tutoring. Starting from a standard lesson plan, it is possible to generate more accessible versions using adapted texts, text-to-speech, concept maps, quizzes and pictograms for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

Particular attention is also paid to data protection and privacy, through the use of pseudonyms and the absence of direct access by pupils.

The webinar provided a clear vision of inclusion: designing teaching by taking into account, right from the start, the differences within the classroom and putting technology at the service of more effective and personalised learning.
