What competences are necessary to act as an e-leader?
“The definition of e-leadership competences is not univocal. Besides digital skills, e-leaders require a range of transversal competences (typical of any leader) and specific sector competences. E-leadership competences refer to the ability to make the most of the opportunities provided by digital and Internet technology in any organisation.” This is the definition proposed by the Agenzia per l’Italia Digitale.
Moreover, the definition adds “the fullest expression of an e-leader is a top figure, a manager in a large organisation, a public administration director, an entrepreneur or a closely related figure in an SME.”
Notwithstanding the high unemployment rates, Europe is not only facing a lack of high-profile professionals capable of instilling innovation and capitalising on the progress of technology, but also mid-level workers with adequate digital skills. This paradoxical situation is central to the debate that will be held tomorrow in Brussels that will focus on finding catalysers in other sectors to face and resolve this issue.
Professor Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, will participate in the “Promoting e-Leadership in Europe” Conference.
