Power Platform: Massimo describes his educational experience

Introducing new IT applications in one’s work with curiosity and an open mind: Massimo Riccobene describes his educational experience with Project Ambizione Italia for Work. He attended the Power Platform course to obtain a Microsoft certification for the data analysis and business processes platform. The six-meeting course was held in September and October by Coach Elisa Chierchiello.

Here is the interview conducted by Onelia Onorati, Press Officer for the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.

You work in IT. How did your interest in technology and digital tools begin?

I’m 55 and I live in the Province of Vicenza. I have dedicated over 30 years to IT, both in my private life and professionally. I first approached computers as a kid. I began with videogames, then word processing, which at the time consisted of a minimalist, grey interface. I’m curious by nature, so I started hanging out at the shop where I then bought my first PC. I also started working there as a programmer, and later in assistance. The big change came with the move to a large company where I worked on system management. My passion for all types of technology has also always been part of my private life. I fitted my house out with domotics and like to keep up to date on all technological progress.

What drove you to participate in the project?

I would like to introduce the platform to my company. The Power Platform interests many companies, and I felt the need to learn more about this Microsoft technology. I looked for an on-line course and found the Fondazione Mondo Digitale Project that attracted me, especially on account of the involved brands.

What did you expect of the course? How did it go?

I didn’t know what to expect, but by the end of the first day I understood I would receive an overview of the platform and its applicative potential. I find it a very interesting approach as the notions are quite complex. Following this introduction, one can pursue various follow-up courses.

Why did you decided to attend this course? What were your objectives?

Personally, I first acquired the Power Platform, then chose to attend a course and finally selected the FMD course. Today, I have an overall vision of all the interesting applications related to data management. And this is a fundamental point: how do we interpret the deluge of data at our disposal? At a company level, it is very important to know how to read and interpret this wealth of data to provide information to the marketing sector. Following this course, I may choose to focus on the operative phase of data transformation.

You built a custom-tailored career for yourself and managed to keep abreast of technological evolution. What advice would you give to someone who wishes to pursue your same interests?

There is a vast demand for data analysts, today. Surely, it’s important to understand the many possible directions that this course prepares one for. One thing is certain, there is no stopping. We need to learn to use all the applications available to extrapolate data and process it. We could draw a general conclusion, though. In life, it is important to keep curious and open-minded, have a desire for exploration and education. This has allowed me to adapt and follow the extremely rapid evolution of technological innovation.
