Objectives and Motivation

On May 2, the Marco Polo Building at Sapienza University of Rome, will host RomeCup, a three-day multi-event dedicated to robotics and life sciences with a wide range of appointments: competitions, labs, creative contests, hackathons, orientations sessions, role modelling sessions and inspirational talks.

Today, we share an interview with a long-standing friend and supporter of RomeCup, Daniele Nardi, Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the Department of Computer, Control and Management Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome.

What drove you to host RomeCup 2022?

Events like RomeCup 2022 are fundamental to attract students to scientific subjects and the jobs of the future. Our university seeks to entice the new generations and guarantee the flow of knowledge and resources that will be indispensable for the working world, a working world that increasingly requires more qualified technical-scientific personnel.

University acts as a bridge with the world of work, which is in constant evolution. Ho do events like RomeCup introduce young men and women to the jobs of the future?

There aren’t many opportunities in which, in a single context, we create synergies amongst schools, universities, research centres, start-ups and companies. In this context, the RomeCup gives youth a perspective onto the paths they must pursue to train for and create a career.

Hosting RomeCup 2022 is part of your third mission objectives. How so?

It is an opportunity to exploit to create a connection, a stronger bond between universities, the world of scientific research, high schools and society at large. RomeCup2022, involving so many young men and women, has a unique capacity to penetrate society thanks to what youth absorb and promote in the environments they inhabit.

Are the new generations more oriented or disoriented?

I believe that at this historical moment, the information that youth have to orient themselves is more than ever before. However, this does not mean that it is easier to orient oneself. The school years are typical of disorientation, which is practically a natural phenomenon. Personal and professional objectives mature progressively.

What message should we send to the new generations?

I always advice youth to follow their passions and inclinations and not be afraid of difficulties. The most important thing, in developing their future, is motivation. And motivation allows us to reach our objectives.

I invite everyone to come to RomeCup 2022 to see our robots play football, to see with their own eyes how science and technology progresses thanks to an activity that excites and interests the young.
