Scenic Presence

The “transformation” of schools into art studios continue as young men and women are inspired to create shared works that will lead them towards a new understanding of art and technology, to develop strategic skills and create new professional profiles.

From January to March 2016, twelve artists will work with students in 12 schools in NaplesRome and Milan to develop digital works that will be exhibited at the prestigious Media Art Festival.

Following on the heels of the successful pilot edition, two new partners have joined the initiative developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale: BNL Gruppo BNP Paribas and the Rome Fondazione MAXXI.

Today, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm, Dehors/Audela will be at IIS Carlo Cattaneo in Rome to host a lab on Performing/Perforating the Daily, a workshop on scenic presence.

The appointment with the Media Art Festival original event-project format, which will be held on April 13-17, 2016 at the Museo nazionale per le arti del XXI secolo, will feature lectures, installations and conferences with international experts, as well as didactic and educational tracks for students of all ages. The Media Art Festival is an absolute novelty for the Italian artistic panorama, a true, networked laboratory to entice the younger generation to the active, creative and innovative use of technology.

Who Are the Artists?

The Lab

Playing as a performance that works and resists against our debt with time. The lab provides participants with the opportunity to experiment and discover how to develop skills and multi-sensorial knowledge through ludic activities in a collaborative and sharing environment in which the classical relationship between teachers and students is dismantled, allowing the participants to experience and practice through their senses with material and digital, materials, tools and techniques. Ideas include:

  • Using our body and senses as a lyrical-poetical tool, as a sign of presence and resistance;
  • Living in a screen to explore real/digital habitats and rewrite/review them through performance and audio-visual editing;
  • Play and role-play (in space, time, action, society and interpersonal dynamics).

The Artists: Dehors/Audela

Elisa Turco Liveri and Salvatore Insana met at the Meta-Teatro in Roma in 2010. Their project moulds theatre, video art and other artistic codes in a constant search for new artistic languages, whilst maintaining the specific nature of their style. Based on reciprocal interference and their respective fields of expertise, their art is based on a theatre in which bodies and action represent the central focus, but video also embodies physical traits and becomes an integral part of the show.

The duo has collaborated with light designer Giovanna Bellini and in the constant drive to overcome genres, tools and other stereotypes has worked on video-theatrical works (A pezzi; Nelle pieghe; Land(e)scapes, Strategia K), audio-visual research projects (Aperture; Recognition; Nero Enigma; Dove era che non ero), urban installations, and photographic investigations (Space-time Lapse, Umano non umano; Folds, Contre nature).
