School, Training, Work

We haven’t managed to accept that orientation is a continuous educational process that concerns every phase from kindergarten to acquire knowledge, abilities, skills, attitudes and values to make conscious choices and actively check our life, not only our professional careers. We have to overcome the ingenuous outlook that views school as a variable that is independent from the world of work. Education drives a life project. Education and training at school are part of a public institution that allows individuals to take hold of the future and contribute to the progress of their environment.

A multidimensional conception of the educational process that we have defined as a Life Education Model allows orientation towards successive school levels or work, beginning with entrepreneurship education as an ability to develop self-awareness, to transform ideas into actions, accept risks, plan and manage projects. These are key elements for global competence and a winning strategy to fight the mismatch of skills on the job market.

With an article published on forumpa.it, the on-line magazine of FPA, Mirta Michilli, the Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, proposes that we rethink orientation as a continuous process.

Work – The Challenge is to Orient towards Lifelong Learning (in Italian)

It is time to work together to form “orientating educational communities,” because besides learning, we must rethink orientation as a continuous process. And we must be able to re-orient ourselves when reference systems fail. This means we must master both culture and know-how.
