STEM Marathon

As we communicated to you last Friday, The Fondazione Mondo Digitale will once again be actively participating in #STEMintheCity, the initiative promoted by the City of Milan, in collaboration with important public and private organisations and the support of the United Nations, to promote STEM and remove the cultural stereotypes that keep young women away from studies in scientific and technological sectors [see lab calendar]. Currently in its fifth edition, the initiative takes place during the month of April, the Month of STEM, and culminates in the STEM Marathon on April 21-23.

For the STEM Marathon (April 21-23), FMD will hold three labs for schools:

  • SOUND LAB

Musical production and psychoacoustics explained to children: why do we like some kinds of music and not others? How do our ears and brain work when we are listening to sounds? Can we draw sound? And many more questions that will be answered through an interactive webinar with educational quizzes on music, ear training, aural exercises and drawings visually representing sound.

Coach: Fiammetta Castagnini

  • SCIENCE LAB

Women in science meet with primary school children to answer simple questions on how objects work and who invented them. From Monopoly to stem cells, we will discover the great women who have changed the world and had an enormous impact on our lives. We will imagine to be in a classroom of only women, women in science, and we will ask them questions to understand how their inventions work.

Coach: Micol Spitale

  • MAKER LAB

Digital fashion for young makers. What is laser cutting and 3D printing? Did you know that you can make clothing and accessories with the help of technology? Design, materials and textiles. Design and develop a digital decoration. Coach: Matteo Viscogliosi
