‘We live in a hyper-information society: much of the content that schools want to convey is already online. This is why the role of the teacher is even more important today than before, but they must know how to relate to the younger generations.’

This is how Matteo Lancini, psychologist and president of the Minotauro Foundation, described the profound transformation of the role of teachers in contemporary society during his appearance yesterday on Radio Roma Capitale.

We are no longer in a school where the teacher is the sole repository of knowledge. Information, content and tools, from artificial intelligence to social media, are everywhere. What is often missing, Lancini points out, is an adult figure capable of guiding, building relationships and accompanying young people in an “onlife” society, where the distinction between real and digital no longer exists.

It is precisely from this awareness that the webinar “Chiamami Maestro” (Call me Teacher) was born, a moment of discussion dedicated to teachers participating in the training courses of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. An opportunity to reflect on the social role of the teacher today: not simply a transmitter of knowledge, but a reference adult, capable of giving meaning, asking questions, and educating on the critical use of technology and artificial intelligence.

During the meeting, Matteo Lancini guides teachers in an open reflection on authority, educational responsibilities and the new challenges of digital education, going beyond the logic of prohibitions alone and asking how to build a school that is truly designed for children, not just to reassure adults.
