Two free Experience AI webinars for teachers, covering technological fundamentals, critical thinking and educational responsibility
Artificial intelligence has already become part of pupils’ everyday lives, influencing the ways in which they search for information, create content, study and imagine the future. To support this transformation, teachers need a solid understanding of the subject, accessible teaching tools and opportunities to discuss the educational, social and ethical implications of new technologies.
These needs are met by Experience AI, the educational programme developed by Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind, with the support of Google.org in Italy, which provides schools with free resources to understand how artificial intelligence works and to promote its critical and responsible use.
As part of the programme, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is offering two new free webinars, on 23 and 27 October, from 4 pm to 6 pm, aimed at teachers in schools of all levels. The sessions, led by Elisa Chierchiello, a PhD student at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Turin, and Domenico Signorelli, a trainer at the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and an ICT consultant, will alternate between theoretical insights, guided discussions and practical exercises, with a particular focus on how the activities can be applied in the classroom.
The first session, on Friday 23 October, ‘Understanding AI: principles, models and languages of artificial intelligence’, is dedicated to the fundamental concepts of AI. What distinguishes a rule-based system from one that learns from data? How does machine learning work? What examples can help pupils understand the processes that make intelligent applications possible? Starting from these questions, participants will gain an initial framework for interpreting the language of AI and addressing it in a clear and accessible way across different disciplines. The session concludes with an overview of the educational resources available on the Experience AI platform.
The second session, on Tuesday 27 October, ‘Ethics, creativity and the future of AI in schools’, addresses the social and cultural implications of artificial intelligence. Through examples and tools for critical analysis, teachers explore issues such as biases embedded in data, algorithmic transparency, privacy protection, accountability and sustainability. Part of the session is also dedicated to the relationship between AI, creativity and the transformation of professions, with a view to supporting career guidance pathways that link technological skills to the challenges of the future. Practical demonstrations of the teaching activities offered by Experience AI are planned.
The two webinars offer teachers the opportunity to consolidate their skills and experiment with an educational approach that combines an understanding of technological mechanisms, an awareness of the consequences of choices, and the ability to ask questions. A programme designed to help students understand artificial intelligence, critically evaluate its outcomes, and participate more consciously in digital society.
