Beyond the screen

Beyond the screen

Paripasso with Rizzoli Education. A webinar to “learn how to navigate without sinking”

Surfing the net is an extraordinary exploration, but like any open sea, it hides shoals, rocks and ‘sharks’ that you need to learn to defend yourself against. If you were unable to attend the live webinar From real to virtual: growing up in the dual dimension of digital life, the recording is now available on demand to help you build a shared educational compass with your children or students [watch the recording on YouTube].

The meeting, part of the cycle conducted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale for the PariPasso programme by Rizzoli Education, saw a comparison between the educational experience of Nicoletta Vulpetti and the technical and clinical analysis of Edel Beckman.

Beyond the screen: the value of presence

Nicoletta Vulpetti invited adults not to remain passive spectators, but to become “beavers” capable of building dams and modifying the digital ecosystem, making it generative. Her central message is a warning to every educator: 'The virtual is real, there is no distinction anymore in this hybrid dimension. What happens on the screen is just as real as what happens in physical life, because both dimensions interact with each other and one affects the other'.

From apathy to empathy: breaking the silence

Edel Beckman, on the other hand, explored the psychological mechanisms of online relationships, such as the “bystander effect” in social groups, emphasising the collective responsibility we have in educating young people: “Even those who remain silent are taking a stand. If I remain silent in the face of abuse, I am complicit in that abuse, and it is important that young people understand this, but I would also say that we adults need to understand it too”.

Next event: don't miss the live broadcast!

Our journey into “digital wellbeing” continues. We invite parents and educators to the next live meeting, scheduled for 19 March at 9 p.m., again in collaboration with Rizzoli Education.

Title: Inside the connected home. Smart devices, AI toys and digital security

Speakers: Edel Beckman and Roberto Raspa

A journey into the world of connected devices that populate our homes: voice assistants, smart speakers, consoles, robots and toys with artificial intelligence. Starting from the concept of “onlife”, the fusion between the physical and virtual worlds that characterises our daily lives, we will reflect on how to build healthy relationships and responsible digital skills with our children.
