The “Train the Trainer” Methodology underlies the success of Project Coding Girls, which continues to train new coaches and classroom tutors annually. Cecilia Stajano, School Innovation Manager for the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, has launched a message to all young women who wish to code and become Coding Girls.
Dearest students,
We are enthralled with the tenacity, passion, dedication and competence that you demonstrated during the Coding Girls Programme. You learned to use new tools and immediately delved into a coding marathon.
Even US Coach Ashley repeatedly pointed out to me how the overall level of this fourth edition was extremely high and saw the potential for coaches in many of you.
Pursuing this opportunity is not like starting a scientific career, coding in fact is a form of mental and experiential training that can become a significant milestone in your life.
Here are a few of the lines that Ashley dropped me before taking her flight back to the US: a though for all of you!
Hello Coding Girls!
I am writing this to you as I sit at my gate at the airport, about to board my flight back to New York. I am so thankful for the time we spent together and I hope to see you next year back as a coding girls coach. I also hope that you feel empowered to make any creation that you think of, and inspired to help the next generation of coding girls to become a coach. Keep coding, as scratch is easily accessible on the internet (scratch.mit.edu). Lastly, please keep in touch, not just with me, but with one another. We are sisters now in a largely male dominated field and we need to rely on each other, and by doing so we will end the gender gap in computer science!
I’d also like to take advantage of this opportunity to inform you that the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is developing an annual coding programme, entailing an annual contest, exchanges between schools and training courses, to allow students who wish to keep on top of coding trained and ready!
