Bic Lazio, the Regione Lazio agency that promotes local development by backing innovative enterprises, has organized a double training bill to explore immersive technology: Monday, September 23 (Via Casilina Fab Lab) and Friday, September 25 (Viterbo Fab Lab).

 

The course will be held by Domenico Zungri, immersive designer, who is specialized in the creation of simulations and immersive experiences for educational, ludic and professional purposes. Domenico is also a coach at the Officina – New Jobs Workshop.

The eight-hour course, which will be held from 9 am to 6 pm, aims to introduce non-specialized users to new digital technology.

 

The course is open to everyone who wishes to learn more about software, specific tools, professional opportunities and the new areas arising in the ICT sector.

 

More specifically, the course focuses on the development of a small Windows application that will interface with the VR Oculus system and will provide an introduction to application development issues related to specific tools such as Unity.

INTRODUCTION TO COURSE AND TEACHERS (1 hour)

  • Historical-technological overview of the evolution of virtual reality
  • Different types of immersion: Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality
  • Individual OculusRift Test to sound its potential use
  • The innovative significance of virtual reality, one century after the invention of cinematography

 

FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS OF IMMERSION AND PRESENCE IN IMMERSIVE ENVIRONMENTS (2 hours)

  • First experimental hybrids: Immersive Games and Cinema ‘360’
  • Application sectors for immersive technology
  • Professional figures involved in a project
  • Multidisciplinary aspects of an Immersive Designer
  • Creative Workflow Process: from concept to product
  • Development technology pipeline

 

IMMERSIVE DESIGN NOTIONS AND INTERACTIVE STORYTELLING WITH ARTICY DRAFT (1 hour)

  • The importance of narration in an immersive experience
  • Introduction to the ArticyDraft Interface
  • Basic concepts and functions
  • Creating and editing a project

 

IMMERSIVE DESIGN TECHNIQUES WITH UNREAL ENGINE 4 (3 hours)

  • Interface introduction
  • Basic concepts and functions
  • Creating and editing a project

 

INTEGRATION WITH OCULUS RIFT (1 hour)

  • Transposition: Viewport Preview to VR Preview in Unreal Engine
  • Implementation of HandTracking with Leap Motion VR
  • Iterative process of VRTesting
  • Analysing the developed project
