With the Blue Economy sustainable growth is no longer only green

According to the European Commission’s Blue Economy Report 2022, with nearly 4.5 million jobs, a turnover of over 665 billion euro, and 184 billion euro of gross added value, the EU blue economy sectors (including all activities related to water, sea and oceans) contribute significantly to the entire European economy, especially along coastal regions.

The report underlines how “blue sectors” are also labs for new solutions and technologies that can be used to fight climate change for a more efficient green transition.

And when we speak about innovation and technology, we must mention Job Digital Lab, the programme developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and ING Italia that provides free futureproof training.

For the month of #BlueSkills, JDL alights in Genoa in collaboration with the City of Genoa, Job Centre, Genova Blue District, and Start 4.0.

The Job Digital Lab training event, which will be held on November 29 from 15.30 to 18.30, at the Blue District, will focus on new professions related to the sea for sustainable development: from promoting data and machine learning to business dynamics, and from tourism and sustainability to future scenarios.

In Italy, the blue economy plays a significant role. IT is one of Europe’s four blue economies together with Germany, France and Spain. It drives the economy and employment. There are 225,000 enterprises in the sector (3.7% of the national figure) with an added value of ca. 51 billion euro and over 920,000 people are employed (3.7% of the national workforce).

Practical cases and success stories will be presented at the event as a source and model of inspiration in the development of professional objectives:

  • Iride, Institute for Research and Engineering on Eco-sustainability
  • Polo Ticass, Innovative Technology for Sustainable Development and the Environment
  • Camelot, Consultants for Digital Transformation
  • AitekInnovative Technological Solutions

The event organised in collaboration by the  City of Genoa, Job Centre, Genova Blue District and Start 4.0 is one of the appointments of the third edition of Job Digital Lab which, between 2020 and 2022, provided training to over 11,000 people in Italy. The educational programme, developed by ING Italia and Fondazione Mondo Digitale, aims to promote the diffusion of digital skills as a tool to intercept the opportunities provided by digital transformation.

The programme of the third edition is even more ambitious. From October 2022 to June 2023, Job Digital Lab will provide courses custom-tailored to local needs with innovative resources and tools for both personal and community-level sustainable growth.

The ten-month project aims to involve another 8000 people in training activities, networking with experts, companies, trade associations, local administrations, public and private organisations, and orientation and employment centres.
