Students examine ISTAT data on birth rates
On Monday 3 June 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the The Dome lecture hall at Luiss Guido Carli University (Viale Romania 32) will host the presentation of the new dossier prepared by the Fondazione per la Natalità (Foundation for Birth) in collaboration with Istat. This is a key stage in the Voglia di futuro (Desire for the future) project promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale (Digital World Foundation) with the participation of 200 students from five Roman high schools:
- Piaget Diaz
- Leopoldo Pirelli
- Tommaso Salvini
- Domizia Lucilla
- Croce Aleramo
The meeting, entitled “Change country or change the country?”, represents a unique opportunity to build an intergenerational dialogue: statistical data will be the starting point for an open discussion between experts and students, who will be asked to share their thoughts on their future, their hopes and their fears. The young people will analyse the dossier in advance to prepare themselves to actively participate in the debate.
The dossier “From numbers to reality” rigorously debunks the widespread narrative that young people no longer want to have children. On the contrary, it reveals a genuine desire for family, which, however, comes up against structural obstacles: precarious employment, access to housing and poor support for young couples. The Italian demographic pyramid is turning upside down and every year we “lose a city”, but young people's desire is still alive. How can we realign dreams and reality?
Speakers will include:
- Livia De Giovanni, Luiss Vice-Rector for Education and Quality
- Gigi De Palo, President of the Foundation for Birth
- Francesco Maria Chelli, President of Istat
- Franco Parasassi, President of the Fondazione Roma
With the Voglia di futuro (Desire for the Future) project, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is betting on a new narrative that stems from the protagonism of young people and aims to generate cultural, social and economic change. Because it is not just a question of “changing the country”, but of changing the country.
