My Free Voice

For the International Day of the Girl Child (October 11), starting from Monday, a series of on-line framing and reframing sessions will be held. The objective is to help young men and women to recognise stereotypes, shortcuts that we use to simplify the complexity of our world and reconstruct a personal vision free from conditioning. These year’s international day will focus is dedicated to “My Voice, Our Equal Future.”

Students from ten classes participating in Project CO.ME-COde&FraME will try with the help of expert educators to reconstruct their mental schemes (reframing) on female emancipation in the workplace to overcome gender prejudice.

Moreover, videos recorded by the ENI role models at the first live event in May will be projected:

The first participants in Monday’s lab (Oct. 12) will be students from the Liceo Primo Levi in San Donato Milanese (MI). The appointment is on-line from 4:30 to 5:30 pm.

Discrimination against certain categories of people, as happens with women, is the result of a process that, starting with prejudice and stereotypical knowledge, leads to the exclusion and privation of rights. This often leads to social phenomena such as the stigmatisation of women in certain environments, such as STEAM, or, more in general, in the working world.

The repetition of trite phrases often contributes to the creation of a perception that does not mirror reality. In order to overcome stereotypes and prejudice, we not only have to develop an empathy that will allow us to understand others, but also be aware of the differences that exist between reality and perception.

The Framing & Reframing sessions will present quizzes and role games to allow participants to identify preconceived ideas and to live situations as others would.

Amongst many different stereotypes, Project CO.ME addresses those against women not being fit for technical and scientific subjects.

Lab Objectives

  • Provide awareness about stereotypes underlying our ideas.
  • Provide  awareness about stereotypes that block our perception of reality.

There are many different ways in which stereotypes are transmitted, even unintentionally.

The session will help participants to reflect on how our communication may transmit stereotyped images that are not always congruent with the realities of others.
