Ninth Edition of Coding Girls

With a focus on IT security

On Tuesday, November 29 (11:00), the Young Conference Centre at the Embassy of the United States (Via Sallustiana 49, Rome) will host the presentation of the ninth edition of Coding Girls, the educational programme developed to help young women orient themselves in their studies and future profession, working on STEM subjects. The alliance involves schools, families, universities, companies, and public and private organisations. The excellent synergy of the United States Diplomatic Mission to Italy continues in collaboration with Microsoft and the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. Various collaborations also reinforced the model such as that with ENI on sustainability and the energy transition.

Only in the course of last year, the project involved nearly 15,000 students in more than 30 Italian cities, and in collaboration with over 30 universities. This year, the project has announced a special programme for the City of Rome and a focus on IT security, as cybersecurity is a social investment that interests collectivity. It is not just about hackers, super experts and special teams. And even women can provide a contribution to one of the crucial challenges of the present and future.

Moreover, thanks to the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and together with CIES, we are involving students from Italy and ten provinces of Mozambique in a training and awareness-raising programme for STEAM subjects (basic and advanced). In addition, a group of young women will also participate in pilot incubation and development of micro and small enterprises for women.
