The National Coding Girls Tour, which will involve 10,000 young women in 14 Italian cities on November 5-22, was in Pisa, yesterday. After the intensive training sessions held in schools in the city and province (IIS Galileo Galilei - Livorno, Liceo G. Carducci - Pisa, LS Buonarroti - Pisa, ITIS Marconi - Pontedera), 120 students, coordinated by American super coach Anthonette Peña, National Board Certified Teacher and STEM Teacher Lead, participated in a hackathon at the University of Pisa. The title of the challenge was "What are we missing? How we fix it?"

Here are the results of the sixth hackathon of the tour, a programme, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and the United States Embassy in Italy in collaboration with Microsoft Italy, aims to promote gender equality in science and technology.

Team Mandra - IIS Galileo Galilei, Livorno

Serena La Sala 18, Giulia Busoni 16, Rachele Giuditta Raugi 18

Description: The three of us decided to address gender stereotypes, both in reality and in the world of artificial intelligence. We developed the idea by programming on two platforms: Machine Learning for Kids e Scratch.

On the first platform, we coded five examples of the “male” and “female” categories. Then, we developed the project on Scratch. The aim of the project is to find a solution to gender stereotypes through the inspiration of the world of technology that allows the new generations to communicate through its images.
