Digital education for parents

Digital education for parents

After the Christmas break, the meetings of Vivi Internet, al meglio (Live the Internet to the fullest) are back. This digital education programme is promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS, with the support of Google.org.

The programme is also designed to strengthen the educational role of adults and help them face the challenges of digital citizenship together with their children: from managing online identity to personal data security, from preventing scams to combating cyberbullying and hate speech, to promoting digital wellbeing and dialogue within the family.

Five key themes for conscious digital parenting

The programme resumes with a series of live webinars for parents, dedicated to five key areas:

Digital wellbeing and awareness, for a balanced and responsible use of technology

Fake news and phishing, to learn how to distinguish between truth and falsehood

Privacy and cybersecurity, to protect personal data and information

Cyberbullying and hate speech, to promote respect and kindness online

Listening and dialogue between parents and children, to tackle situations of doubt or difficulty together

Each meeting is designed as a space for practical discussion and a certificate of participation is issued at the end.

The role of parents: accompanying, not just controlling

In the digital growth of children and adolescents, the role of parents is less and less about control and more and more about accompaniment. Being present means helping sons and daughters to develop critical thinking, awareness and autonomy, building a relationship based on dialogue and trust. Talking together about what happens online, sharing doubts and difficulties, explaining how platforms work and the risks of the digital world helps to prevent problematic situations such as scams, misinformation, cyberbullying or exposure to inappropriate content.

“Vivi Internet, al meglio” (Live the Internet to the fullest) was created precisely to strengthen this educational role of adults, offering concrete tools to transform technology into an opportunity for learning, well-being and relationships, both online and offline.
