Supervised Experience

In the coming months, Google will launch the beta version of a new feature to allow parents to provide their children with access to YouTube through a supervised account.

The supervised experience includes three levels of settings to control content and functions for pre-adolescents and adolescents:

  • Explore – for children ready to graduate from YouTube Kids and explore content on YouTube. It includes a wide range of videos that are suitable for children aged 9 and up, such as vlogs, tutorials, gaming videos, music videos, news, didactic content and more.
  • Explore Other – with content for viewers aged 13 and up. It includes a wider selection of videos, as well as live streaming, in the same categories as “Explore.”
  • Most of YouTube – includes nearly all videos on YouTube, except for age-restricted content and sensitive issues that could only be suitable to older individuals.

Together with Google we advise parents not to stop supporting and helping children with their YouTube experience. How? An excellent solution is provided by the proposals of Fully Enjoy the Internet.

"We are connected parents with hyperconnected children. It is not only important to guarantee their on-line safety, but also to have the tools – such as YouTube’s new supervised experience – that allow us to follow our children in their on-life dimension, between the real and the virtual,” explains Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. "Continuing to reinforce the educational role of technology helps us to keep and open, serene dialogue, knowing that even our youngest children are viewing safe content.”
