Training, practical resources and support for all schools

The recent MIM notice on training hubs for artificial intelligence has confirmed a very real need: schools want to understand how to integrate AI into educational, organisational and teaching processes in a safe, responsible and sustainable way. Out of 4,486 valid proposals, 2,100 educational institutions were funded. Many schools were therefore left out of the open call, despite having already expressed a clear need for training and support [see Decree on the allocation of resources].

For these schools, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is offering a free introductory guidance programme, featuring webinars, practical materials and access to the practical guide AI at School. The initiative is also aimed at funded training hubs, which can find in the Foundation an expert partner to integrate the activities envisaged in their projects: training modules, workshops, governance tools, support for risk assessment and programmes for teachers, students and administrative staff.

At the heart of the programme is the practical guide “AI in Schools”, an operational framework designed to help schools move from individual experimentation to a conscious, shared and documentable use of artificial intelligence. The guide incorporates organisational and regulatory guidelines, ready-to-use operational models, practical annexes for governance and teaching, tools for evaluating AI applications, policy templates, school-to-family communications and declarations on responsible use by students.

The proposed training also complies with the provisions of Article 4 of the AI Act, which calls upon providers and users of AI systems to ensure an adequate level of AI literacy for staff and for those who use these systems on their behalf. For schools, this means building widespread skills, proportionate to roles, contexts of use and the potential impacts on students, families and the educational community.

The online course

23 June, 5.00–6.30 pm
1st session. Presentation of the practical guide ‘AI at School’
Organised by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale
The first session, open to all school staff and the educational community, introduces the guide, the practical appendices and the main issues related to the adoption of AI in schools: governance, teaching, regulations, security and responsible use. The Foundation’s support services, the available training courses and the practical contribution of young professionals from the Cybersecurity Seminars will also be presented.

25 June, 5.00–6.30 pm
2nd meeting. Ethics and risks of AI
With lecturer Elisabetta Nanni and trainer Elisa Chierchiello
The workshop focuses on risk assessment and the informed selection of AI tools, using Appendix 3 ‘Risk classification of AI systems’ and Appendix 4 ‘AI tool assessment form’. The session offers practical support for recognising the limitations, critical issues and responsibilities involved in the educational use of technology, as part of the Experience AI project.

30 June, 5.00–6.30 pm
3rd session. The appropriate use of AI by students
with lecturer Roberto Raspa
The session explores the role of schools in developing awareness, critical thinking and digital citizenship. Through Appendix 6 ‘Student Declaration on the Responsible Use of AI’, participants will work on rules, transparency and shared educational responsibility regarding students’ use of AI tools, as part of the Vivi Internet, al meglio project.

2 July, 5–6.30 pm
4th session. The perfect prompt
with teacher Francesca Sabatini
This practical session focuses on Annex 9 ‘The Perfect Prompt Manual’, featuring hands-on exercises to learn how to write effective prompts, structure requests useful for teaching, and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs. The workshop is part of Ital.IA Lab for School. All participants will also have on-demand access to the project’s free video course.

The sessions will also be available on demand.

At the end of each session, you will be able to download a certificate of attendance. Upon completion of the course, you will be able to access the full operational guide.

For schools and training hubs

Schools can participate in the online course free of charge and use the guide as a primary working tool to guide teachers, students and school staff. Interested institutions may also request a dedicated meeting to present the guide to the digital transformation working group, explore the institution’s specific needs, develop a customised training programme, evaluate operational support pathways, involve multiple schools with shared needs, and include administrative staff in organisational, managerial and documentation aspects. The programme helps schools turn artificial intelligence into a concrete educational opportunity, keeping the individual, critical thinking and shared responsibility at the heart of the process.
