The school that builds the future

The school that builds the future

Three stories that concern us, told by iO Donna of Corriere della Sera

In the latest issue of IO Donna of Corriere della Sera (14 February 2026), journalist Gabriella Cantafio writes an extensive report dedicated to schools that innovate to combat educational poverty. A powerful story, set in Rome, Palermo and Northern Italy, which shows how pedagogical vision, technology and territorial alliances can generate the future.

The Fondazione Mondo Digitale is mentioned in the report for the drone flying field at the Edoardo Amaldi high school in Rome, set up thanks to the collaboration with the University of Rome Tor Vergata for the Smart & Heart Rome project. An experience that transforms the school space into a skills laboratory: programming, robotics, problem solving, teamwork. But the connections don't stop there.

Palermo: creativity that becomes opportunity

The report also recounts the experience of the Sperone-Pertini comprehensive school in Palermo, led by headteacher Antonella Di Bartolo, in a complex neighbourhood of the city. A school that has chosen to open up to the local area, focusing on art, innovation and new methodologies. This is where the OpenSpace project came in, accompanying students, teachers and the educational community on paths of active citizenship, digital creativity and reappropriation of educational spaces. This patient work has focused on cross-cutting skills, personal expression and participation, transforming the school into a cultural and social hub.

Bosco Chiesanuova: technology and the educational community

Among the stories told by IO Donna is that of the comprehensive school in Bosco Chiesanuova (Verona), an example of a school capable of combining innovation and local roots. This is the context in which the collaboration with the European project e-EngAGEd was born, which promotes the conscious use of digital technologies as tools for civic participation and intergenerational dialogue. Technology is not an end in itself, but a lever to strengthen community, responsibility and a sense of belonging.

An ecosystem that values courage

As Cantafio writes, ‘shared visions are needed to weave together the fabric of freedom and civic spirit’ . It is precisely with this logic that the Fondazione Mondo Digitale has been operating for over twenty years: building alliances between schools, universities, businesses and local areas, so that innovation becomes a tool for equity. We are not the ones who determine the success of the experiences described. But we are proud to be part of an ecosystem that recognises and values the courage of leaders, teachers and students who are able to think outside the box to build the future.
